Stacey Hurst, LCPC, BC-DMT

Psychotherapy and Dance/Movement Therapy

Ms. Hurst is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Dance/Movement Therapist, Certified Movement Analyst and adjunct faculty of Columbia College Chicago’s Dance/Movement Therapy Department where she earned her Master of Arts degree in 1996. Ms. Hurst has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of mental health settings and has developed competency in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, emotional regulation, body image issues and chemical dependency. She also works with clients who have eating disorders, coronary heart disease and somatic illnesses.

Using Dance/Movement Therapy, Ms. Hurst guides an individual, or group, to address challenging mind-body-spirit issues from a holistic perspective. Since the body, mind and spirit are inter-related, the entire individual is affected while moving. Through verbal processing of the client’s movement, images, memories and emotions, Ms. Hurst assists clients in identifying functional and unhealthy life patterns. The newfound awareness from this process helps the client make the cognitive, behavioral and relational changes necessary in order to create a greater sense of harmony in the body, mind and spirit. Ms. Hurst believes that the therapeutic relationship and the creation of a safe, non-judgmental environment helps to foster the client’s connection with his/her core self.
